Kenyan towels could have AIDS: Televangelist Pat Robertson issues a warning

According to televangelist Pat Robertson, people travelling to countries like Kenya should be extremely careful since their towels could have AIDS. During a recent show on the 700 club a viewer told Robertson that he had been summoned by God to travel to Kenya. However, friends and family had advised the viewer against this sighting it was too dangerous due to the Ebola crisis.

Robertson was quick to point out that there was currently no Ebola outbreak in Kenya but there were other impending health problems. “You might get AIDS in Kenya, people have AIDS, you’ve got to be careful,” he explained. “I mean, the towels could have AIDS.” He went on to add that although Ebola was a serious health problem, it could be contained with proper measures.

While the Televangelist’s advice on Ebola seemed reasonable, his statement on Towels having aids was farfetched and ill-informed. According to the United States Office of Women’s Health, HIV and AIDS cannot be spread through sharing of food utensils, drying towels and bedding, telephones, or public toilet seats.
