So far this is what has been confirmed about the death of Raila’s elder son Fidel Odinga

It was in the wee hours of the morning that the country was stunned by the untimely demise of Fidel Odinga. Fidel is the son of former prime minister and CORD leader Raila Odinga.

The cause of death is yet to be confirmed but a battalion of detectives streamed into his house this morning to establish what caused his death. Fidel is said to have arrived home shortly before 1am after a night out with his friends.

Earlier during the day, Fidel had spent a lunch with his father Raila at his Karen home. He had gone to bid his parents Happy New Year greetings as they had not seen each other upon the opening of the New Year.

Later in the evening he went out with his friend to a popular Westlands hotel where he was until around midnight. He arrived home by taxi and the house help opened the kitchen door for him where he came through.

As CID boss Ndegwa Muhoro and his team try to retrace Fidel Odinga’s last movements, messages of condolences continue to flow to the family. Top politicians and prominent friends of the family arrived to condole with the family. Among those present were Cord co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka, Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Homabay Governor Cyprian Awiti, Siaya Senator James Orengo among others.
