First Lady’s Vehicle Apprehended, Apparently No one is above the Traffic Laws
On Thursday morning, a vehicle owned by Margaret Kenyatta, the First Lady of Kenya was impounded for not having a prescribed number plate. The vehicle was taken to Traffic Police Headquarters based in Ruaraka. It was however released just a few minutes after.
The police at the station failed to comment about the incidence. However, according to National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the vehicle had been apprehended at the City Centre. The vehicle was being driven by the First Lady’s personal driver but there was no one else in the vehicle.
According to sources, the vehicle was released shortly after following an instruction from Statehouse. Mathew Munyao, Director of Road Safety, NTSA did not confirm whether the incident took place but said that it was their duty to apprehend any vehicle that did not follow traffic rules. He also added that it does not matter who owns the car. If it does not meet the rules, it gets impounded.
