Saturday morning and the country wakes up to some really astonishing news of the death of Kabete Member of Parliament, George Muchai. The legislator was brutally murdered when gunmen sprayed his car with bullets. The selected venue of the murder simply calls to question the nature of the security that leaders are accorded in this country.

Between 3.00 am and 4.30 am, the legislator, together with his driver and two bodyguards met their death at the Kenyatta Avenue-Uhuru Highway roundabout. This happened as the driver slowed down for on-coming traffic at the roundabout a few meters after GPO (General Post Office).

The four had been traveling in one car while another car followed from behind with the legislator’s wife, one of his daughters and other family members. A relative recounted the ordeal saying that the gunmen simply started spraying the car with bullets and their driver sped past the MP’s car and returned to the scene a few minutes later.

Members of Parliament, Senators and other leaders who went to the Lee Funeral Home where the bodies of the deceased lie urged the government to take the security of leaders seriously. Among those who visited the Lee Funeral Home were Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi.
