BBC’s director general, Tony Hall confirmed that Jeremy Clarkson’s contract was not going to be renewed after an unprovoked physical attack on a Top Gear producer. Tony Hall felt like he could not condone the type of behavior. Clarkson was suspended on 10th march following a row that took place in a Yorkshire hotel. According to witnesses, the fracas occurred because no hot food was provided for the top gear team following a day of filming.
After an internal investigations were conducted it was discovered that, Mr Tymon, the top gear producer who was attacked physically and verbally by Clarkson, took himself to hospital. During the attack Oisin Tymon was struck leading to bleeding and swelling of his lip. The attack lasted about 30 seconds but the verbal abuse went on for a while longer. Interestingly, Clarkson is the one who reported himself to the BBC bosses after the incident. Mr Tymon didn’t take any action.
The decision to drop Clarkson from the show has not gone well with fans. More than 1 million fans have signing an online petition to reinstate the gutsy outspoken presenter. Clarkson’s contribution to the show has made it one of the biggest factual TV shows in the world.
