Yet another Kenyan could be following the footsteps of Lupita Nyong’o and Divock Origi. First, It was billed as the fight of the century, a once in a lifetime event and the biggest economic activity in boxing. Social media went crazy as the Mayweather and Pacquiao boxing match stole the headlines over the weekend. The fight was much anticipated and Kenyans either stayed up all night or woke up early in the morning to watch the super hyped fight.
Bets were made as the two boxers defining a generation took to the ring for the match. Mayweather won the match under a heavy cloud of controversy. Now, a Kenyan, Douglas Ambrose Otieno Okola could very well be the man behind Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather’s win on Sunday. The Kenyan boxer is part of the Mayweather camp as a trainer and sparring boxer.
He himself is a prolific boxer having won 24 of the 32 boxing matches he has been involved in. It is no wonder that Mayweather has never lost a professional boxing bout. With a Kenyan in the company of the moneyed boxer, in characteristic fashion, Kenyan will want a piece of the man just as it has been with Lupita, Origi and Obama who have put Kenya on the map.
