In a meeting to console property owners at the Gikomba Market after yesterday’s fire Mike Sonko turned to Evans Kidero, pointed a finger at him and told him that he wasn’t a drug dealer. Mr Kidero’s response to this was a smile as the on looking crowd cheered and chanted at Sonko’s remarks. The Deputy President who was at the same meeting looked on in awe but was clearly not amused by the whole episode. As if this was not enough, Sonko went on to claim that Governor Kidero’s administration knows the culprits who set the particular section of Gikomba market on fire.
Sonko also went on to claim that politicians, businessmen and county officials have been trying to grab parts of the market for years and have devised various tactics to accomplish their mission.
When it was Kidero’s turn to deliver his speech, he decided to keep matters civil and steered clear of Sonko’s remarks. He however promised that the county government would do all that it can to ensure traders where back on their feet. As Kidero delivered his speech on the podium, Sonko seemed restless and kept on talking to other leaders who were also present at the meeting.
