It seems that there is a cartel in Nairobi that is minting money from hardworking boda boda riders for no reason. This is apparently the main reason that he got arrested. From a lengthy Facebook post it seems that this time round the police targeted the wrong person and all the affairs they have are now in the limelight.
In what seemed like a clear means of bailing and helping out a friend, activist Boniface Mwangi came face to face with the ruthlessness of the administration police for asking for a friend’s bike. In what seemed like a clear misunderstanding from the word go turned out to be an extremely ugly affair as police pounced on him for inquiring why motorbikes were being confiscated for no reason.
Apparently it seems that Kenyan police has moved from bribes on the street and target Boda Boida riders who have committed no traffic offence. It gets worse that one actually has to pay for the release of the bike being charged ksh.1000 a day, translating to thousands.
In his facebook post, it seems that Boniface Mwangi actually sustained injuries and was released at a ksh.50,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned in court for disturbance and resisting arrest. Regardless, if his lengthy post is to be believed, it is the police who should be arrested. At the end of the day they have no reason to play with innocent Kenyans source of income. Unfortunately this being Kenya, the boda boda riders will continue to suffer while the high and mighty public servants will continue eating and growing fat on Kenyans sweat.
