This Is Why The US Has Issued A Travel Alert Ahead Of President Barack Obama’s Visit To Kenya On July 24

On Monday the US issued a travel alert for its citizens since they could be targeted at the sixth annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) in Nairobi. The advisory stated that large public events could present a good opportunity for criminal elements to target participants and visitors. Most terrorists target large-scale public summits such as the one that will be held in Nairobi. The alert is set to expire on the 30th of July 2015 once the summit is done. The alert also advised US citizens to maintain high levels of awareness and enrol in Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to get relevant safety and security information.

Obama is set to visit Kenya for the first time as the President of the United States from 24th July to the 26th. During his visit, he is scheduled to attend the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) in Nairobi. Another country which has issued a travel alert to its citizens is Canada due to the increasing number of terrorist attacks and incidents of crime. For those who may not know this, Nairobi will be on lockdown during the three day visit when Obama will be attending the summit.
