Kajiado Governor David Nkedianye is in hot soup following improper spending in his county. He sanctioned the purchasing of phones to the tune of Sh 2.5 million. The high-end Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phones were bought for the chief officers and executive committee of the county. The governor is also on the spot for paying private lawyers Sh 12 million for legal services without following proper procedure. The governor was brought to task before the Senate County Public Accounts and Investment committee following a damning report by the Auditor-General on financial malpractices in Kajiado County.

The phones could have been bought for Sh 30 000 but some of those gadgets went for as high as Sh 90 000 and Sh 80 000. There was no documentation and requisitions to support the need to buy phones and it is unclear who those phones were allocated to. The Kajiado governor tried to divert attention by blaming MCAs in his county for frustrations and added that his procurement officer would give an accurate account. Extravagant spending in counties is nothing new with Kajiado the latest in a string of baffling expenditures.
