With Kenyans mocking the government for the past month over the ‘failed’ El- Nino that was supposed to come, it seems that the weather report given was very accurate, well at least for those in Somalia. The floods are said to have destroyed all makeshift homes in the area together with their wells and latrines. The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that the El Niño conditions had come amid an already fragile humanitarian situation. Flash floods have affected thousands of people in the low lying areas of the southern and central parts of Somalia.
Worse still is the fact that any aid that is offered to them is futile as all the roads are impassable, thus the more than 900,000 people expected to be affected by the floods will be left with nothing but a stare at death. Kenyans on the other hand now have to brace themselves for the worst, as the light rains witnessed are just the beginning of what is going to be termed as the worst case of heavy rains ever recorded.
