Controversial blogger Robert Alai started his year on a bad note after he was forced to part with Ksh. 30,000 for alleging that the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) chair Halakhe Waqo had acquired a fake degree from the University of Nairobi. Although we have heard such claims with the likes of Hassan Joho, Alia was not lucky this time round. As we expected, Waqo did not take it lightly because he had to protect his integrity by taking him to court over the same matter.
Yesterday, Alai faced charges for posting untrue and offensive message on his Twitter account. The court granted him a cash bail of Ksh 30000 as he awaits the hearing of his case on March 16. According to judicial experts, Alai will pay not less than Ksh 50,000 if the court finds him guilty of the offence or else he lands behind bars. This comes barely a few months after he lost his brother under unclear circumstances.
