On May 28th, Nathaniel Mwangi a 5 year old boy was kidnapped by unknown assailants. They demanded Ksh3 million as ransom in exchange for the young boy.
Mwangi’s mother Jerusha Wairimu and the rest of his family could not raise the money demanded. They therefore tried to negotiate with the kidnappers for a smaller amount. They finally settled at Kshs.150, 000. The family was able to come up with this amount and they sent it via MPESA to the assailants. The kidnappers however did not keep their end of the bargain as they ended up killing the boy.
Nathaniel’s family had contacted the police and informed them of what was going on but still kept contact with the kidnappers. The family had decided to meet and raise more money to get their son back. However, before they could meet and discuss how to raise more money, their son’s body was discovered in Dandora near a railway.
George Ngugi, the boy’s father believes their son was struggled and tortured since he had some bruises on his body and neck.
Japheth Koome, Nairobi County Commander said that investigations are being done and the police are trailing the kidnappers.
It is however not clear if the parents knew the kidnappers and why they killed the boy even after receiving the ransom.
