In a disappointing turn of events things may not be looking all that rosy for the Kenya athletics team. This is after a shocking 9 minute video expose depicted that some athletes had been doping. The video which has been doing rounds on social media was conducted by German TV station ARD and British paper The Sunday Times. The expose shows how a section of athletes training in Iten, Uasin Gishu County, have been discretely using performance enhancing drugs.
In the clip that was released, some atheltes are seen injecting themselves with what is believed to be Erythropoietin (EPO), a drug that is difficult to detect during doping tests. On hidden camera, a doctor identified as Mwangi claims to have sold the drug to about 50 athletes who train in the region. According to Jasper Rugut who is the current chairman of the anti-doping agency in Kenya, Criminal Investigations are going to be carried out to ensure that those involved in this malpractices are punished.
