In a horrific turn of events France has suffered yet another terror attack. This time 80 people were left dead after a truck plowed into them during Bastille Day celebrations in the French seaside city of Nice on Thursday. The truck slammed into the revelers as they gathered to watch fireworks displays. This was around 10:40 p.m. local time (4:40 p.m. ET) according to witnesses who were at the scene of the deadly attack. Even more saddening, the death toll includes several children who were at the scene.
The driver of the truck was soon after fatally shot by police but it is still not clear who his accomplices were. According to NBC News the driver is believed to have been a French national of Tunisian descent. Following the monstrous attack, Nicolas Hollande, the President of the French Republic pledged to step up efforts to fight terror in Iraq and Syria and added that he will extend a state of emergency within 3 months.
