After the story about how a man decided to chop of his wife’s hands because of fertility problems went viral, Kenyans were outraged. Many wanted some form of justice for Mwende and even felt that the man should have his hands chopped off too.
Even after the horrific ordeal the woman was still willing to forgive the barbaric man, making many empathize with her situation. To help get her back on her feet, a section of Kenyans and a number of organizations have decided to come to her aid. Taita Taveta Women Representative Joyce Lay for example offered to pay for Mwende’s treatment and counselling through MERCK. Additionally, she promised to set up a new business for Mwende and offer her a salary of Sh25,000 every month until she is able to support herself.
The Bangladeshi High Commission in Kenya has also offered to cater for Mwende’s medication bills during her recovery process in three months. LG Electronics East Africa through their marketing general Moses Marji, have offered to purchase prosthetic limbs for Mwende. Those who may be willing to offer support can contact Mwende’s father Samuel Munyoki, on telephone number 0720285571 or 0737488464.
