Once bitten, twice shy! This is the motto Jackline Mwende has adopted to help her soldier on with life after the near death ordeal her husband put her through. Mwende whose hands were chopped by her husband spoke out saying that she does not intend to ever love again. “Even if I get a nice man I will not accept,” she said adding that she would rather stay with her parents who took care of her after the ordeal.
Mwende was speaking when women representatives from Machakos, Meru, Kajiado, Taita Taveta and Makueni visited her in her parents’ home in Machakos. They were there to show solidarity with this victim of gender-based violence, which they condemned strongly.
Meanwhile, her husband of seven years Stephen Ngila is in police custody. Mwende fears that her life might be in danger if he is released on bond. Childlessness was the root cause of the dispute which angered the man so much that he took a machete and attacked the wife. This is despite the fact that medical reports showed that Stephen was the one with the problem.
