The proverbial forty days were over for five notorious criminals who had been terrorizing residents in the Kayole and Changamwe areas respectively after they were all gunned down by police. Three of the suspects were shot dead by police in a botched robbery attempt in Kayole while the other two, Said Bare and Jumba Simba had been on the Mombasa police radar for a while owing to a string of robberies in the area. Police attire, handcuffs, radio-calls and a drilling machine were recovered from the criminals who were gunned down in the Jomvu area of Changamwe.
Despite a police officer being wounded in the operation to nab the Kayole robbery suspects the undertaking was a success with three pistols being recovered. The suspects had been trailed to their secret hideout where the police managed to corner and kill them. One of the pistols recovered from the operation is believed to have been robbed from a policeman in Huruma last year. A loaded G3 rifle belonging to police was also recovered in Changamwe. It had the registration number KE KP J63181K.
