On the 26th of October, 2016, the group managing director of Royal Media Services, Wachira Waruru sent a memo to all the staff informing them of impending layoffs. In the memo, Wachira said that the past two years have been challenging for RMS and as a result, the company has resolved in reorganizing to cut costs. Part of this reorganization includes reducing the workforce through job redundancy. According to the reports, up to 100 RMS employees will lose their jobs. Some of those affected by this reorganization were the business news anchor, Terry Anne Chebet and morning presenter Kirigo Ng’arua.
Kenyans were shocked by the layoffs. Terry Anne responded to Kenyans on her Facebook post by saying that it has been a tough week and she thanks everyone who has shown their support for her by either texting, calling, or sending supportive messages in her inbox. She also said that the RMS door was now closed and she is looking forward to better things ahead.
She is now focusing on her skin care company called Keyara Organics, and her social media and branding agency called Scarlet Digital.
