Robert Mugabe has finally resigned as the president of Zimbabwe. His resignation was announced by the house speaker Jacob Mudenda during a parliamentary hearing to impeach Mugabe. This brings down the curtain of his 37-year reign. In a resignation letter Mugabe wrote’ “ I Robert Gabriel Mugabe in terms of section 96 of the constitution of Zimbabwe hereby formally tender my resignation… with immediate effect”.
Car horns and wild cheers could be heard for miles on the streets of Zimbabwe as the news spread. Its clear most were vouching for his impeachment and were fed up of his rule. The country has been through tough times and Mugabe’s efforts to position his wife as his successor had angered many.
