Goldalyn Kakuya from St Anne’s Junior Lubao in Kakamega County was the best pupil in the just released KCPE results. Goldalyn who is currently 14 years of age defied all odds by scoring 455 marks, 18 marks higher than what the best student the previous year scored. Being an albino did not deter Goldalyn ambition of great success even when faced with long spells of poor health. She dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon, a psychiatrist or a banker in the near future.
Goldalyn scored all A’s in her subjects. She scored an impressive 99 in Kiswahili and English, followed by 88 in Science, 85 in Mathematics and Social Studies and 84 in Religion. Teachers and parents alike at St Anne’s Junior Lubao broke into song and dance on learning of her success. Everyone was proud of her impressive performance including her father who is a manager at West Kenya Sugar and mother who is a lecturer at Kibabi University.
In her victory speech, Kakuya, said that she expected to pass the examination but not to that extent. She is torn between joining Kenya High School and M-Pesa Foundation Academy
