After a lot of public outcry, Robert Mugabe finally decided it was wise to resign before an impeachment after 37 years in power. Emmerson Mnangagwa, former vice president of Zimbabwe is set to takeover. If everything goes according to plan he will be sworn in as president in an inauguration ceremony that will take place on Friday.
Emmerson Mnangagwa had previously been fired as the vice-president over a tussle with the former first lady, a move that prompted the intervention of the military to force Mugabe out of power.
Even though Emmerson Mnangagwa path to presidency looks clear, some sceptics thic that he is no different from Robert Mugabe. They feel like the country will still experience the same economic difficulties which hampered progress when Mugabe was in power. Pictures of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son flaunting large sums of money have angered a section of Zimbabweans. Clearly, Mnangagwa’s son is no better than Mugabe’s son Chatunga who lives an extravagant lifestyle in South Africa at the expense of Zimbabwean taxpayers.
