Police officers engaged in running battles with supporters of the National Super Alliance (NASA) Presidential candidate, Raila Amolo Odinga in Eastlands Nairobi.

Security personnel were compelled to lob teargas to disperse the rowdy supporters as the former prime minister attempted to address them. The incident happened moments after President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto took oath of office.

The opposition leader had addressed a roadside rally in Mayanja before police swung into action. In his speech, Raila said that he does not recognize the swearing in of President Uhuru.

“Uhuru Kenyatta is not the president of Kenya, I am not a coward and will be sworn in” said Raila
The Veteran politician also condemned the event at Kasarani saying that the journey to Canaan is unstoppable.

“What has happened in Kasarani does not mean the journey for NASA is over,” he added.
The political temperatures in the nation have continued to escalate after Raila, who contested for the nation’s top seat for the fourth time, refused to take part in the rerun.
