Following what many believe was a clash with his bosses, Larry Madowo decided to terminate his writing contract with the Daily Nation. It is believed that the development stemmed from an article that was rejected by Nation editors. The article which was to appear as a column piece was titled “Why it is perilous to be a journalist in Kenya”.
On his Twitter account, Larry posted: “On Thursday, I terminated my contract to write the #FrontRow column in the @dailynation. It was an honor & I’m grateful to the paper for the page since August 2014.”
Interestingly, the article was picked up and published by CNN. In the opinion piece, Larry narrates how there has been an increased attack on media freedom following the TV shutdown of the three major stations in Kenya. The shutdown directive was given by the president after the three stations aired the swearing-in of National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga.
