Zambian President Michael Sata dies in London While undergoing Treatment

Citizens of Zambia today woke up to the sad news of the death of President Michael Sata. Sata passed away while receiving treatment at a hospital in London. He had traveled to the United Kingdom to seek treatment for an unknown illness on the 19th of October.

Sata was elected into office in the year 2011. He is the second Zambian president to die in office after President Levy Mwanawasa who died at the age of 59 in the year 2008. News reports claim that Sata passed on a few mintues after 11pm on Tuesday night. This is at London’s King Edward VII hospital where he died at the age of 77.

Cabinet secretary Roland Msiska said in a statement that the First Lady, Christine Kaseba and his son Mulenga Sata were by his beside when he died. The president had been accompanied by his wife and family members.

The news of Sata’s dead has been received with much regret by world leaders. Messages of condolences have been flowing in to the family and to the large Zambian population. Vice President Guy Scott, who is of Scottish descent, becomes takes over the role as interim president for the next three months. Scott is the first white leader to rule Africa in over twenty years.
